Orange Tree House is a beautifully run rustic wedding venue in County Down, perfectly positioned on the shores of Strangford Lough. Known for its relaxed atmosphere, exposed brickwork, and stunning natural light, it’s a favourite for couples looking for an intimate, character-filled wedding day with incredible photo opportunities right on the doorstep.

Orange Tree House is one of those venues that just works. Warm, welcoming, and effortlessly well organised — it’s without doubt one of the nicest rustic wedding spaces around.

I’m also proud to have been a trusted, recommended photographer at Orange Tree House for many years. Knowing the venue inside out means I know exactly where the light works best, the best times to step outside, and how to make the most of every location without pulling couples away from their guests for too long. It’s a huge advantage on the day — everything flows naturally, nothing feels rushed, and you get the very best from the venue without even thinking about it.

Inside, it’s a photographer’s dream. Exposed brickwork, wooden beams, and soft natural light give the space real character and depth. There’s detail everywhere you look — and if you know, you know… find the five faces. You’ll spot them.

Photo-wise, you’re genuinely spoiled for choice. The beauty of Orange Tree House is how much variety you get without ever feeling rushed or dragged too far away.

Why Photographers Love Orange Tree House

  • multitude of photo locations right on your doorstep
  • The Abbey just down the road — full of history and texture
  • The seashore beside the venue (not a sandy beach, but honestly, it’s gorgeous)
  • Golden-hour sunsets over Strangford Lough — some of the best around
  • The orangery, perfect for family photos and keeping everyone together
  • Absolutely stunning light throughout the venue

The orangery deserves its own mention — rain or shine, it’s ideal for family photos, speeches, or just keeping things relaxed and flowing without splitting the group up.

Just around the corner you’ll also find the Abbey, the Castle, and some beautiful private gardens only a few minutes’ drive away. But truthfully, you don’t need to leave the venue at all — everything you need is right there.

Now… the food.
I honestly think Orange Tree House serves the best homemade shortbread anywhere. I’m convinced the secret is proper butter. I’ll admit it — I nick a biscuit with a coffee every single time I’m there. Zero shame.

A huge shout-out to Michael — a genuine wedding legend. I’ve known him for over 15 years, and the place runs like absolute clockwork. If dinner is at five, it’s at five. If first dance is half eight, it’s half eight. As a photographer, that kind of timing is priceless — I know exactly what’s coming, and I know I won’t miss a moment.

Orange Tree House is relaxed, beautiful, and brilliantly run.
If you’re getting married here — enjoy. You’ve made a great decision.
